K-Gr 2-Simple machines and the important roles they play in making work easier are highlighted in this bright series for emergent readers. Each title defines the featured device, then provides practical, everyday examples with which many students should be familiar. Straightforward sentences and age-appropriate vocabulary make the text in each book easy to read and comprehend. Eye-catching images pop on the page, and the use of bright hues behind the text makes the words stand out even more clearly. The inclusion of both a picture glossary and a hands-on activity reinforces the information and should appeal to students with different learning styles. VERDICT A well-designed addition to elementary science and technology collections.
