Magazine

If you love the spectacle of immaculately-restored old machinery, or are fascinated by Britain’s rich industrial and transport heritage, Old Glory is the magazine for you! In vivid detail it brings back all the sights and sounds of yesteryear. Glorious showman’s engines belt out the amperes to drive historic fairground rides; pairs of mighty steam ploughing engines turn the soil; steam rollers make up roads once more; tram wheel flanges squeal through town and city streets; colourful working narrowboats ply the canals; dray horses deliver good ale to the pubs; vintage tractors cough into life; stationary engines turn over tirelessly and the commercial vehicles we used to know take to the road again. This magazine covers these magnificent steam engines that once powered this nation. Whether you’re interested in the latest news, stories of steam engines saved from obscurity, upcoming events or detailed features on the history of these wonderful machines you’ll find it in Old Glory.

MINIATURES AT KELSALL • As well as the full-sized stream engines at Kelsall Rally, there is always a fine selection of miniatures to see, which should not be missed says David Reed

2025 PIONEER RUN • It has taken place 85 times, beginning in 1930. It has been attended by hundreds of different vehicles and witnessed by thousands upon thousands of spectators, but this is the first time it has ever received coverage in the estimable pages of Old Glory. It is perhaps not so surprising, because it is a motorcycle event, and while the early vehicle movement is a broad church with lots of overlapping interests, spindly two-wheelers are about as far removed as one can get from the giants of steam. But early motorcycles are a delight to behold and, so their owners tell me, a joy to ride, so it gives me very great pleasure to introduce the Pioneer Run, writes Zack Stiling.

WEATHER HOLDS FOR BUMPER CHESTER-LE-STREET • David Reed visited the Chester-le-Street Steam & Vintage Fair where a great selection of large and miniature steam engines were displayed along with many other attractions

SHILLINGSTONE IN THE SUNSHINE • Three Okefords Preservation Society Ltd held their annual Shillingstone Steam and Vintage Rally at Shillingstone, near Blandford, Dorset on May 17-18 in fine sunshine, writes Joseph Lewis.

BUMPER HADLOW DOWN • Warm sunshine blessed the Hadlow Down Traction Engine and Historic Vehicle Rally at Tinkers Park in East Sussex, now in its 59th year, says Zack Stiling. It attracted...
